Gianluca Sampaolo is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow (2024 call) at the University of Macerata, Italy, and holds a Visiting Scholar appointment at the University of California, Berkeley. He conducts applied research in partnership with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Inside Industry Association in Eindhoven.
His work investigates the geopolitics and industrial policies shaping technological innovation, with a specialized focus on the global competition over semiconductors and the associated research and innovation ecosystems. Prior to receiving the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship, Gianluca trained as a sinologist and graduated with honors in Global Politics and International Relations. He holds an Industrial PhD in Applied Economics.
